Cookie Policy

A cookie is a small text file a website leaves on your device. This page lists every cookie this website uses, what it is for, and how to switch it off.

The short answer. This website uses only the cookies it needs to work. No advertising cookies, no cross-site tracking, no selling of data to advertisers. You can read every public page with cookies switched off.

1. Why a website uses cookies at all

The web is stateless — a page has no memory of the page before it. A cookie is how a website remembers that the person asking for this page is the same person who logged in on the last one. That is the only thing we use cookies for.

2. The cookies this website uses

CookieWhat it doesHow longType
PHPSESSID Keeps a signed-in staff member, advocate or client signed in as they move from page to page. It holds only a random identifier — no name, no password, no personal data. Until you close the browser, or log out. Strictly necessary
CSRF token A one-time random value stored with your session that proves a form was submitted from this website and not from a fake page elsewhere. It is what stops cross-site request forgery. For the session. Strictly necessary
Analytics (only if enabled) Counts, in aggregate, which pages are read and which are not, so we know what to improve. It does not identify you and is not used for advertising. Up to 13 months. Optional

Strictly necessary cookies do not require consent, because without them the parts of the site you have asked for simply cannot function. Any optional cookie is used only where you have agreed to it.

3. What this website does not use

  • no advertising or retargeting cookies;
  • no cross-site tracking, and no advertising audiences built from your visit;
  • no fingerprinting;
  • no sale, rental or licensing of any data to advertisers or data brokers; and
  • no behavioural monitoring or targeted advertising directed at children.

4. Other things stored on your device

Some pages use your browser's local storage — a similar mechanism — for small conveniences: for example remembering that you have already dismissed a notification so it does not appear again, or that a reminder for today has already been shown. This stays on your device, is not sent to us, and is cleared when you clear your browser data.

If you install this website as an app on your phone, the app stores a small cache of pages so that it opens quickly and works when the network is poor. You can clear it by uninstalling the app or clearing site data.

5. How to control or delete cookies

You are always in charge. Every browser lets you see, block and delete cookies:

  • Chrome — Settings, then Privacy and security, then Third-party cookies and Delete browsing data.
  • Safari — Settings, then Safari, then Block All Cookies and Clear History and Website Data.
  • Firefox — Settings, then Privacy & Security, then Cookies and Site Data.
  • Edge — Settings, then Cookies and site permissions.
What breaks if you block them. Nothing on the public side — services, prices, guides, the advocate directory and contact details all work normally. But you will not be able to log in, and form submissions will be rejected, because the security token that protects the form cannot be stored.

6. Third-party cookies

When you make a payment, you are taken to the payment provider's own page, which sets its own cookies under its own policy. The same applies if you follow a link to a government portal or another external website. We do not control those cookies. Please read that site's own policy.

This website loads a web font and an icon set from third-party content networks so pages render correctly. These do not set advertising cookies.

7. Changes to this policy

If we add a cookie, this table is updated before we do, and the date at the top of this page changes. How your personal data is handled generally is set out in our Privacy Policy.

Questions

Common cookie questions

Do you use advertising or tracking cookies?
No. This website uses only the cookies it needs to work — a session cookie so a logged-in user stays logged in, and a security token that protects forms. We do not run advertising cookies, we do not build advertising audiences, and we do not sell any data to advertisers.
Can I browse with cookies switched off?
Yes. Every public page — services, guides, the advocate directory, prices, contact details — works with cookies switched off. Only logging in and submitting a form need cookies, because that is how the site keeps you signed in and protects the form.
